Imperial College Malaysian Night 2008

Imperial College Malaysian Society proudly presents this year's Malaysian Night:
"KAWAN"
Friend.
Peng yo.

Redefining the Malaysian Night experience, "Kawan" is a story about infinitely more than just friendship; it is a commentary on past and present Malaysia as we see it, with new and original performances, peppered with a non-stop dose of good old Malaysian humour!

Priya sets off to fulfill her ill father's request to find his long-lost friends: Nordin and Siong. Along the way, she encounters colourful characters (a mischievous Mat Rempit and a rude Ah Beng, to name a couple!) while learning of her father's adventures as a young man growing up with his best friends in 1950s Malaysia.

Watch as the story unfolds.

Featuring original songs and brand new performances!

This year the Oxford University Malaysia Club (OUMC) and the Oxford University Malaysian and Singaporean Students Association, jointly bring to you, our inaugural Malaysia Singapore Night.

Let us transport you to the warm, lush tropics for one night, where the air is heavy with the scent of jasmine and the night is thick with anticipation.

Come and feast with us on fiery soul food like satay, mee hoon, nasi lemak and sambal whilst you watch our lithe dancers and listen to our sultry singers.

Departures - Newcastle University Malaysian Society

Dear Malaysian Societies in the UK,

The Newcastle University Malaysian Society presents, simply, Departures: The Musical.

A uniquely Malaysian musical set in the 1960s with a FULLY original soundtrack of 10 songs -
soaring ballads, playful jazz numbers, and heartwrenching love songs, in Malay, Chinese and English, composed, arranged, recorded, and - most importantly, SUNG! - by our members.

A psychotic mother downs her pills, and dies.

A father with cancer clutches his chest, and expires.

How many more needless lives will this family feud claim?

Featuring Syaffira Nadya as Rindu, Ali Hafiz as Kah Seng, Departures: The Musical promises to be a groundbreaking Malaysian Night. The ill-fated inter-racial couple sing their way through ten harrowing scenes, aided and abetted, amongst others, by a coterie of sleek chicks and their buffoon boyfriends, a good smattering of multiracial mates, and a feuding set of parents.

Departures is not your average Malaysian Night.

Four lead vocalists, ten mesmerising original compositions by Mohd Zafiruddin Abdul Rahman, seven exquisite dances, stolen glances, hurtful looks, and broken vows.

Pencil it into your diaries NOW.

Wednesday, 12 March, The Venue, Northumbria Union
Newcastle upon Tyne

Tickets:
A VERY reasonable 4 pounds (musical only!)

Contact Nicholas at nicholas86@gmail.com to reserve your tickets; if accommodation is required, do email me too. Please include your name, university and telephone number.

I know a lot of you will not be on holiday then; but it IS a shame we can't do it any other date; if we did it any later, it would be during our holidays. For those of you whose holidays begin on the 8th March, please, please DO try and make an effort to head over to watch our spectacle - it will be one musical to remember.

Our participation in Piala Putra was very intriguing. There were 18 teams that participated in that game and we ended at number 16. Well, it wasn't that bad, after being chased by a dog on the field, and our goalie had his nose done(not botox). It was a great experience. Our team members that played that day were Irwansjatria, Iban, Faiz, Apis, Farouk, Pa'an, Ogie, Ngejes, Zohdi, Usher, Esse, John, Alip, Shazne, Afuq and Nik. Pyan,Ajim and Azfar were the committee members of Piala Putra. The MssGlamgirls were there too, giving support to the team members.
